Annual review of selected scientific literature: A report of the Committee on Scientific Investigation of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry.

The Scientific Investigation Committee of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry presents this review of selected 2025 dental literature. This, our sixty-ninth published report, remains focused on topics of interest to modern restorative dentists and prosthodontists. Each committee member contributes discipline-specific expertise in their respective fields, including (in order of presentation): conventional prosthodontics; implant prosthodontics; operative dentistry and direct restorative materials; caries and cariology; periodontics, alveolar bone, and peri-implant tissues; occlusion and temporomandibular disorders; sleep medicine and related topics; and oral and maxillofacial surgery, medicine, and radiology. The report aims to inform complex diagnoses and daily dental treatment decisions, emphasizing current innovations, new materials and processes, emerging technologies, and future trends likely to impact restorative dentistry. Given the extensive volume of literature published daily in dentistry and related fields, our report cannot be comprehensive. Instead, its purpose is to inform and update interested readers, serving as a useful starting point for those who may seek more detailed information independently. Our goal is to help colleagues navigate the vast amount of new information available annually.
