Whether children are hospitalized for acute conditions in the NICU and PICU or seek treatment in the emergency department, these experiences create overwhelmingly stressful conditions for parents. When children are dying or at the end-of-life, parents are challenged to cope with the death of their hopes and dreams for their children. Additionally, the ongoing needs of children with special needs or chronic conditions create caregiving demands that contribute to stress for parents in the daily management of their child's condition.
