During non-targeted screening of a preserved fruit and a jelly health food product, two unidentified compounds were detected and subsequently isolated through prep-HPLC. Comprehensive structural elucidation under optimized conditions employing ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC/Q-TOF MS), high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection (HPLC-DAD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy confirmed the compounds as oxyphenisatin dioctanoate and 5-chloro oxyphenisatin, respectively. These findings demonstrate a persistent pattern of structural modification with increasingly esterified or halogenated derivatives of the laxative oxyphenisatin since 2023, which warrants full attention from regulatory authorities.
