Barriers and opportunities to health system climate change adaptation in the Eastern Caribbean.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the barriers and opportunities to strengthening climate-resilient health systems in the Eastern Caribbean. DESIGN AND METHODS: Information was extracted from desk reviews of the National Health Adaptation Plans for Climate Change (2022-2023). SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analyses informed plan preparation. RESULTS: Barriers included inadequate enabling governance and weak multisectoral collaboration. Opportunities included strong political commitment, inter-ministerial committees, and access to climate and health financing. CONCLUSION: Caribbean small island states are well positioned to apply adaptation and mitigation measures to build climate-resilient health systems.
