This study explores the mechanism of how green technical barriers to trade (GTBT) affects the green innovation strategies of Chinese export enterprises to determine the means to optimize the allocation of green innovation strategies of export enterprises. Data from Chinese A-share manufacturing listed companies (2010–2021) were utilized, through which it was identified that GTBT significantly and positively affect green product innovation in Chinese export enterprises; this effect does not extend to green process innovation. A particular pronouncement of this effect exists among state-owned enterprises and enterprises with high export dependence. Two channels facilitate the achievement of this positive impact: R&D investment and financing constraints.
