• ASTM A36 steel corrosion in 1 M HCl solution. • EP@MNS@APTES achieved 98.71% inhibition efficiency at optimum point. • Experimental data conformed excellently to Langmuir model. • Coatings adsorption was spontaneous, thermodynamically favorable and endothermic. • EP@MNS@APTES was a highly effective and cheap coating from rice husk waste.
