Chronic Diarrhoea with Cystoisospora belli Infection in a Newly Diagnosed Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Positive Patient: A Case Report.

We present the case of a 53-year-old male with chronic diarrhoea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and significant weight loss over six months. Initial evaluation revealed acute kidney injury, metabolic acidosis, and lymphadenopathy. Stool examination identified Cystoisospora belli immature oocysts, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus serology was reactive. The patient responded well to cotrimoxazole therapy, with no episodes of diarrhea by the sixth day after initiation of treatment, underscoring the importance of considering opportunistic parasitic infections in immunocompromised individuals.
