Our team subscribes to using contemporary, ecologically sound, and sustainable catalysts to produce a range of chromenoquinolines. This was accomplished utilizing the environmentally friendly heterogeneous catalyst isinglass-bassorin (IG-BR) cryogel in aqueous media at room temperature in a one-pot three-component reaction involving 4-hydroxycoumarin, aromatic aldehydes, and 3,4-(methylenedioxy)aniline. The two main significant advantages of this innovative and practical method are the use of water as an ecologically friendly medium and the IG-BR cryogel as a strong and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst (for at least 4 cycles) that conforms with green chemistry principles to produce target compounds in a brief reaction time (4-5 h) and high product yields (89%-93%). Additionally, all target compounds demonstrated superior inhibition zones at doses of 50 and 75 μg/mL when tested for antifungal activity in vitro against three types of fungal pathogens in comparison with two common antifungal medications.
