A non-O1/O139 Vibrio cholerae breast abscess in a previously healthy teenager: A case report.

Skin infections caused by non-O1/O139 Vibrio cholerae (NOVC) have typically been reported in people with underlying chronic disease or immunosuppression. This report presents the case of a non-O1/O139 Vibrio cholerae breast abscess occurring in a previously healthy teenager. Exposure to freshwater during a school camp eight days prior to symptom onset was the only potential environmental exposure identified. The abscess was managed with ultrasound-guided drainage and antibiotics. This case highlights the potential for NOVC infections in non-immunosuppressed individuals and the need to consider these types of atypical infections in clinical practice.
