It can be concluded that the proposed method by Ion Chromatography is a simple, accurate, and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of 10 DBPs in diverse water bodies.
In the present research, an ion chromatography (IC) method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 10 disinfection by-products (DBPs) in drinking, reclaimed, and surface water, including 7 haloacetic acids and 3 oxyhalides. A total of 115 water samples were collected from the city of Shijiazhuang China, comprising 38 drinking water samples, 43 reclaimed water samples, and 34 surface water samples. Water samples were neutralized with Na2CO3, filtered through a microporous membrane, passed through a Ba/Ag/H column and a Na column, and analyzed directly. The mobile phase and detection conditions were as follows: 3.5 mmol/L Na2CO3 and 0.1 mmol/L NaHCO3 with 8.99% (v/v) acetonitrile solution and 0.01% (v/v) methanol aqueous solution. Under isocratic elution, analytes were separated on an anion-exchange column and detected by a conductivity detector. Under the optimal conditions, the linear correlation coefficients for all 10 DBPs were ≥ 0.9990. Recoveries ranged from 80.4% to 119.5%, the relative standard deviation (RSD) was ≤ 9.9%, and the detection limits were below 1.19 μg/L. Principal component analysis, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Bonferroni correction were employed for statistical analysis. It can be concluded that the proposed method by Ion Chromatography is a simple, accurate, and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of 10 DBPs in diverse water bodies.
