Abstract Nuclear export mediator factor (NEMF) is considered to be a tumor suppressor in Drosophila. Based on the analysis of data from an online database, NEMF is downregulated in ovarian cancer. However, the mechanism underlying its expression has not been reported thus far.In this study, the immunohistochemistry results showed that the expression of NEMF may be related to patient age and tissue differentiation. In vitro experiments indicated that overexpression of NEMF may inhibit cell proliferation and migration by inhibiting the PI3K/mTOR signaling pathway, thereby blocking cell cycle progression and promoting apoptosis (P < 0.05).Therefore, we speculate that NEMF is a potential tumor suppressor gene. Targeting NEMF may be an innovative therapeutic approach for ovarian cancer. Summary blurb NEMF is downregulated in ovarian cancer and the mechanism underlying its expression has not been reported thus far.In vitro experiments indicated that overexpression of NEMF inhibit cell proliferation and migration by inhibiting the PI3K/mTOR signaling pathway, thereby blocking cell cycle progression.
