Digital accessibility guidelines for deaf and hard of hearing persons: a state-of-the-art review article

Abstract This article reviews the State-of-the-Art of digital accessibility for persons who are DHH, evaluating existing guidelines and their effectiveness. Despite advances in standards such as WCAG and Section 508, significant gaps are identified in the inclusion of specific needs, such as sign writing, adaptation of captioning technologies, and inclusive captioning for paralinguistic and nonverbal information. In addition, it highlights the limitations in the implementation of these guidelines, which hinders their adoption in educational and work contexts. The article proposes to develop new solutions that go beyond minimum compliance and promote fuller inclusion.
