The role of the transcription factor Myc in the functioning of multipotent neural stem cells (NSCs), committed neuronal progenitors (CNPs), and neuroglial elements was studied. It was found that this factor inhibits the proliferative and differentiating activities of NSCs, but does not participate in the realization of the growth potential of neuronal-lineage-committed precursors. In vitro experiments demonstrated the fundamental possibility of stimulating the functions of multipotent NSCs and the production of neurotrophic growth factors by neuroglial cells using the Myc-mediated signaling inhibitor KJ-Pyr‑9. The results indicate the promise of using Myc as a new target for neuroregenerative agents.
