Species-Specific Microsatellites Reveal Parthenogenesis in a Stingray.

Parthenogenesis has been described in several species of elasmobranchs, mostly from those kept in human care. Using a set of 14 newly developed species-specific microsatellites, we describe parthenogenesis in a honeycomb ray, Himantura uarnak, from the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. This represents the third case of parthenogenesis in the batoids.
