ABSTRACT In the context of China's “dual carbon” goal, improving carbon emission efficiency holds profound significance for fulfilling carbon reduction targets and advancing the green development transformation of the national economy. This study selects 30 provinces in China as research subjects and employs the super‐efficiency SBM model to calculate the carbon emission efficiency of each province over the period from 2014 to 2023. By leveraging kernel density estimation and spatial econometric models, it investigates the spatiotemporal characteristics and spillover effects associated with carbon emission efficiency, aiming to provide a scientific foundation for China's low‐carbon and green development endeavors. The research findings reveal the following: (1) China's carbon emission efficiency exhibits distinct spatiotemporal clustering features. (2) The spatial disparities in carbon emission efficiency across different regions are gradually narrowing. (3) Carbon emission efficiency of various provinces in China exerts a positive spatial spillover effect. The study offers quantitative evidence to underpin the efforts made by China to achieve the “dual carbon” goal and the implementation of region‐specific emission reduction plans.
