ABSTRACT Conjugated organic semiconductors are promising for low‐cost, flexible electronics due to their tunable properties. Perylene‐3,4,9,10‐tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) and its derivatives are prominent n‐type semiconductors, distinguished by a rigid perylene core, strong π‐π stacking, high electron affinity, and excellent thermal and environmental stability, enabling efficient charge transport and reliable device performance. Their structural flexibility allows the tuning of optical and electronic properties through targeted functionalization, supporting applications in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic photovoltaics (OPVs), organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs), sensors, and energy storage systems. This review summarizes recent advances in the design, synthesis, and structural modification of PTCDA‐based functional materials, with particular emphasis on bay‐position functionalization. Moreover, it also discusses thermal, electrical, optical, and electroluminescent properties, highlights major device applications in OLEDs, OFETs, sensors, dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSC), and batteries, outlining current challenges, and offering future perspectives for next‐generation PTCDA‐based materials. Overall, this review provides a comprehensive overview of perylene‐based semiconductors, highlighting their potential to inspire further innovation in organic electronics.
