Validity and Reliability of the Korean Version of the Supportive Care Needs Scale for Tuberculosis Patients.

AIM: To develop a culturally appropriate Korean version of the Supportive Care Needs Scale for Patients with Tuberculosis and to rigorously evaluate its validity and reliability for use as a standardized assessment tool. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. METHODS: The original tool underwent standardized translation and cultural adaptation, followed by expert review and pilot testing to finalize the Korean version. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 330 adults receiving tuberculosis treatment at three medical institutions in South Korea. Construct validity was assessed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, along with criterion validity and internal consistency reliability. RESULTS: The content validity index was ≥ 0.80, and exploratory factor analysis supported a five-factor structure, explaining 76.3% of the total variance, while confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated acceptable model fit. Cronbach's alpha was 0.96, indicating excellent internal consistency. CONCLUSION: The Korean version of the Supportive Nursing Needs Scale for Tuberculosis Patients is a valid, reliable tool for assessing supportive care needs in patients with tuberculosis and is appropriate for clinical use and subgroup comparison research. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: The findings of this study are expected to serve as foundational data for nurses caring for tuberculosis patients to identify patients' nursing needs early and to design and implement tailored nursing plans. Ultimately, this will contribute to increasing patient satisfaction with nursing care and promoting disease recovery. IMPACT: This study provides a culturally adapted and validated instrument for assessing supportive care needs among patients with tuberculosis, supporting comprehensive needs assessment and patient-centred care.
