Managing manure as a resource during livestock intensification.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)'s 2026 report, Drivers of supply and demand of terrestrial animal source food sets the stage for a growing manure problem. It forecasts rapid expansion and intensification of livestock production across lower-middle-income countries. The resulting increase in manure can become either a valuable resource within circular agriculture or a major source of pollution, depending on how it is collected, stored, treated and returned to land. © 2026 Society of Chemical Industry.
