Understanding the diversity and adaptive significance of oviposition-related behaviors is crucial for understanding how insects cope with the limited mobility of their offspring. In this study, we focused on the oviposition behavior of the longhorn beetle Schwarzerium quadricolle (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae, and observed a unique phenomenon: hatching larvae remain within their eggshells, where they feed on host wood before boring into branches.
