Examining the Associations of Altered Metabolism in Black Women with Endometrial Cancer.

Metabolic syndrome is a modifiable risk factor in endometrial cancer patients and is predictive of disease outcomes in endometrial cancer survivors. While metabolic syndrome has been on the rise in the United States, there is also a concerning, disproportionate increase in the prevalence of aggressive endometrial cancer subtypes in Black women and with worse clinical outcomes. The purpose of this narrative review is to summarize the evolving landscape of research and the complex intersectionality of diagnostic and therapeutic disparities and survivorship considerations, in Black women with endometrial cancer. The goal of this review is to bring attention to these disparities to improve gynecologic oncologic care for Black women. Reviewing the mechanisms, molecular and social determinants of disease in this population can provide a foundation for future improvements in research, interventions in prevention, detection, and treatment aiming at improving survival outcomes for Black women with endometrial cancer.
