Medicinal chemists are routinely faced with a strategic decision: should they keep a phenol group on their chemotype or do all things in their power to replace it? This short perspective will highlight recent examples of successful phenol-containing compounds, trying to understand what is unique about the phenol moiety, and perhaps reducing a bit of the associated stigma attached to this functional group.
