Benziodolium Salts: Structures and Syntheses

Vinyl aryliodonium salts, as a distinctive class of hypervalent iodine reagents, have been widely explored in their vinylations because of their unique reactivity. In recent years, much attention has been directed toward cyclic diaryliodonium salts, particularly in response to the poor atom economy of acyclic aryliodonium salts, where aryliodide motifs are discarded as byproducts in the arylations. More recently, the synthetic investigations of benziodolium salts have recently experienced a resurgence after a long period of neglect, highlighting their inherent advantages in improving atom economy. These advances have significantly broadened the substrate scope and further expanded the application potential of cyclic aryliodonium salts.
