Since the 2012 approval of pre‐exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) Truvada (generic name tenofovir) as a way to prevent HIV, the virus which can lead to AIDs, there have been questions about whether this daily medication should be prescribed for injection drug users as well, because it reduces the risk of users who share needles, though it does not completely eliminate it.
