This chapter proposes the revolutionary Adaptive Cyber Resilience Framework (ACRF) concept, which features the qualities of the immune system with a multi-layered defense architecture and accordingly addresses this problem. It develops a bio-inspired ACRF that aims at addressing the increasing complexity of cyber threats in autonomous, distributed and cyber–physical systems. The chapter assesses the implementation of an immune memory mechanism for learning, generalizing and predicting recurring and evolving cyber threats to promote system resilience of a high degree over time. Modern cyber infrastructures, especially those that are autonomous, distributed or cyber–physical in nature, have become the primary targets of highly sophisticated and intelligent cyber-attacks such as advanced persistent threats, zero-day exploits and AI-driven adaptive malware. Future studies aim at developing the ACRF to be scaled out practically across diverse heterogeneous cyber–physical infrastructures such as smart grids, autonomous transportation systems and industrial IoT environments.
