This chapter covers the concept of integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals into the application of a current cloud-native software infrastructure. It aims at determining feasible patterns, quantifiable metrics and implementation directions on how to integrate ESG considerations in the organization of microservices using the Kubernetes engine. The chapter focuses on improving real-time health data collection, decision-making and resource-efficient monitoring in connected healthcare environments. It highlights the growing importance of combining advanced optimization methods with IoT technologies to develop robust and efficient smart healthcare monitoring systems. Various sources of observability include application traces, node-level power and energy data, and business-level telemetry. GitOps workflows perform the process of runtime orchestration in order to ensure that any policy change can be audited and reproducible.
