In times of disruption, innovation becomes the primary factor in an organization's survival and development. Crisis accelerates the decision-making process, shifts the focus, and uncompromisingly demands change or death. For managers, it is crucial to manage uncertainty and promote creative thinking. This chapter also examines case studies of Tesla's near bankruptcy during the 2008 financial crisis and Johnson & Johnson's (J&J) response to the COVID-19 pandemic to explore how innovation in crises can transform sectors and make a meaningful difference. Ethical engineering requires leadership that embodies the “T” model: deep technical expertise combined with a broad understanding of societal and moral responsibilities. MIT Nobel Laureate Dr. Robert Solow highlighted that technological leadership significantly contributes to over 60% of the U.S. GDP. Metrics such as safety, sustainability, and inclusivity must guide technological development and decision-making.
