Workplace culture is the collection of values, expectations, and practices that influence the behavior of all team members. In this chapter, the authors discuss the building blocks of a healthy culture and how all team members can identify, benefit, and contribute to this dynamic. A popular model used to describe the interaction of job characteristics and their impact on well-being is called the Jobs Demands-Resources (JD-R) model. The authors explore leadership styles as well as key elements of work planning and their impact on well-being. In the JD-R model, one of the resources most commonly referenced is autonomy. By intentionally aligning organizational culture with evidence-based principles of communication, feedback, and structured planning, veterinary teams can build environments that support well-being, sustain motivation, and improve the quality of patient care.
