OBJECTIVES: This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (intervention). The objectives are as follows: Primary objective To assess the effects of different insulin regimens in terms of their benefits and harms for achieving optimal glycaemic control while minimising complications and adverse events in adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Secondary objective To estimate the relative ranking of insulin regimens according to their probability of being the most effective and safest treatment using network meta-analysis.
